2021 Rent Increase Allowance on Residential Properties

Sep en 1

Every year, the BC government sets a standard for the rent increase allowed on residential properties during the year. The newly announced maximum rent increase allowance in 2021 is 1.4%.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak, the provincial government has issued a ban on rent increases.  This order will remain in effect until the end of 2020.  As a result, any rent increase issued between December 2019 to August 2020 will only be effective on December 1, 2020. Notice issued on and after September 2020 will not be in effect until 2021 and the increase cannot exceed 1.4%.
